Healthy-Steps, The Lebed Method

a Healthy-Steps classHealthy-Steps, also known as the Lebed Method, is an internationally renowned therapeutic exercise and movement program designed to aid the physical and emotional recovery of breast cancer survivors. Healthy-Steps helps restore range of motion, enhance physical and emotional balance, reduce swelling from lymphedema, improve frozen shoulder, increase energy, and promote a positive self image. Classes are lighthearted and fun, and all movements can be done either seated in a chair or standing. In addition to breast cancer survivors, the program also has been found beneficial for people with other cancers and chronic conditions including arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Developed in 1980 by physicians Marc and Joel Lebed and dance/movement specialist Sherry Lebed Davis, The Lebed Method is currently offered as a therapeutic recovery program in over 600 hospitals, community centers and health clubs worldwide. The Lebed Method has been recommended by many specialists in breast cancer treatment -- including surgeon and author Dr. Susan Love -- and has been featured in medical journals and national magazines, as well as Lifetime Live, The Today Show, and the BBC. What to bring/wear:

Wear comfortable clothes that let you move freely. You can be as fancy or as cozy as you like -- whatever makes your body happy. Dressing in layers will help accommodate your changing body temperature. Wear soft-soled, non-"grippy" shoes such as sneakers, ballet slippers, or jazz shoes.

Don't forget to bring water, your sense of humor, and your playful spirit!
